Coco Klockner

Coco Klockner works in sculpture, sound, drawing, and text-based works that probe the ways systems of representation are constructed. The forms that emerge in her work mirror and intersect dynamics embedded in the structural concerns of transness, examining the terms through which its status is constituted. Texture and surface negotiate states of legibility, clockability, and recognition of threat as each object channels its own material logic.

This presentation comprises work in which Klockner adopts abstraction and material poetics as a means of approaching sculpture “as though in transition,” catching forms in the midst of falling away from former states and fluctuating in resolution. Psychically charged gestures of casting, incising, burning, and embedding register a number of trans affects and conditions of metamorphosis throughout the installation, so that touch and its absence are translated into erotic material encounters that channel, in moments, what it feels like to be seen versus surveilled. Conceptually rigorous and insistently affective, Klockner’s work refers less to fixed terms or identities than to the way relations are affected by form.

Coco Klockner (b. 1991) is an artist and writer based in Brooklyn, New York. Recent exhibitions include Greater New York at MoMA PS1 2026), In Practice, SculptureCenter, New York (solo; 2025); lower_cavity, Holyoke, MA (solo; 2025); Below Grand, New York (2025); Benny’s Video, Brooklyn (2025); Parent Company, New York (2025); White Columns, New York (2025 and 2023); Bad Water, Knoxville, TN (solo; 2023); Silke Lindner, New York (solo; 2022). She will have a solo show at Romance, Pittsburgh in 2027.
